The Tabor House
Story

by Gez F

It was as recently as February 2003 when I met with Jim S and his business partners George R and Steve B to discuss the possibilities of transforming an old brownstone in the Chambersburg area of Trenton and turning it into a home worthy of men living in recovery. Perhaps the monumental rehab was simply a forerunner of things to come; rehab in any vein (if you forgive the pun) is always monumental. Our biggest regret is not doing the before and after thing with a camera so you could see what I’m talking about, (I did consider finding a bombed out plot and explaining, “it was like this”. Maybe a bombsite is a little dramatic but there has indeed been a tremendous amount of blood, sweat, tears and cash spent that have brought about the desired effect and produced a dramatic change, not simply within but throughout the house.  Needless to say from new walls and doors, recovering hardwood floors, ceilings, and basements, new wiring, new plumbing, new heating new windows, roof repairs, garage doors, inspections and codes, etc etc… we have been through the mill and now the after picture makes it difficult to remember the before, alas! This change has already had a significant effect on the neighborhood, may it have more of the same on the men who reside here and may we never forget where WE have come from.
