The Tabor house is not affiliated with any state or federal agencies and
is chiefly supported through the weekly rent of its residents and the
generosity of others. The house provides its members with a safe and
supportive environment conducive to the physical, mental and spiritual
growth which is necessary for recovery from addiction. The Tabor House
also offers its members a way of living that is free from isolation, (a
major cause of relapse) while affording them the necessary privacy
essential to a renewed dignity. Individual rooms, a TV room, a prayer
room and a common space that includes leisure and recreational facilities
allow the men to address their recovery needs.
Alcoholism is a disease that has a threefold effect: physical, mental, and
spiritual. The recovery therefore must also be threefold; we suffer from
a mental, physical and spiritual illness. Recovery, being difficult in
essence, is made easier when worked towards with others
endeavoring to achieve the same objective. The Tabor House provides it's
members the means and environment to experience physical, mental, and
spiritual recovery.
Though
not affiliated directly with Alcoholics Anonymous, the community at The
Tabor House bases its principles for living on the program of AA and on a
philosophical approach towards a holistic recovery. Our primary purpose is
to stay sober one day at a time and to help others achieve sobriety. Our
hope is that we might provide the men who come to the Tabor House a
springboard back to normal living.
